The consumer polls we call Style Face-Off let’s retailers and manufacturers learn more about plus-size consumer shopping habits. From a consumer perspective, the polls illustrate the style trade-offs many women experience when going up in sizes.

For the week of November 27 (as of 12/03/09 6:00P CDT), our consumer polls are as follows.

check-bomber
Checked bomber jacket (see original post)
The winner with 80% of the vote: A. Black and white checked bomber jacket with simpler zipper details available in regular sizes XS-L
The loser: Red and black checked bomber jacket with hood and patent faux leather details available in plus sizes 1X-3X
While both jackets are very similar in style and price, the detail makes all the difference in appeal. Focus on simplifying details while still pushing creativity and innovation. It’s an old saying, but it still stands: less is more.

sequined-party
Sequined party dress (see original post)
The winner with 55% of the winning vote: B. Black matte and sequined bottom mini dress available in regular sizes
The loser: Silver sequined and satin style bottom mini dress available in plus/extended sizes
These are similar dresses with similar price tags. The winning mini dress is a little bit naughty and little bit nice with its short skirt and long sleeves. Plus-size women will traditionally pick one feature or another to show off. The losing dress is a turn off to many consumers because a lot of skin will be exposed when worn.

shimmery-statement
Shimmery statement dress (see original post)
The winner with 88% of the vote: A. Asymmetrical ruffle shift available in plus sizes
The loser: Two piece with mock metallic python skirt
Attention to detail can not be discounted in these two dresses. The mock python is subtly cool and the asymmetrical ruffle is sweetly eye-catching. These are details that appeal to consumers. The winning dress skims the body while adding a little flirtiness with a simple yet stunning ruffle that runs the vertical length of the dress.
