Are you going to dress up for Halloween this year?

For two years in a row, I dressed up. One year I was a French foreign exchange vampire from the 1960s and last year I was Little Black/Goth Riding Hood. This year I don’t have the budget to do anything new and creative, so I’m thinking of combining the last two years of Halloween costumes into one for this year.

So, if you’re going to dress up for Halloween what are you going as?

I’m planning to go as a Valkyrie (from Wagner’s Ring Cycle)…basically the stereotypical view of opera singers as a fat woman with plaits, a big dress and a horned helmet. I’m an actual opera singer going to a party full of actors, most of whom I wont know so I figured it was a good ice breaking costume and also something that would be cheap and easy to pull together. (It’s basically going to be made up of a recital dress, my own hair in plaits, a helmet I found in a toy shop and a staff made from a curtain rod painted black. And if anyone tries to tell me it’s not scary I’ll sing at them!)

I’m going as Iphigenia Smith, intrepid steampunk heroine!

Top hat, goggles, blouse, corset, skirts, flintlock toy guns, brass bits and bobs, stripey tights, and boots. Good thing it’s going to be cool that night!

I think I’m going to go as Joan from Mad Men. If I go out at all. There’s snow here. I feel like hibernating.

I was a voodoo priestess. I got a green tie-die caftan from ebay and wore a green scarf. My make-up was inspired by Calypso from Pirates of the Caribbean. Not really a sexy choice, but it was fun.
