Taking inspiration from one of my newer favorite bands, Arcade Fire. This outfit mixes up some of the band’s signature pieces into one rock inspired outfit.

INSPIRATION
The men in the band tend to wear lace-up work boots and nice trouser pants with suspenders. The ladies usually wear black dresses with a petticoat and a pair of fingerless gloves. The Arcade Fire seem to take their style cues from the height of the Edwardian era. They put their own spin on it, but their love of the original Goth look is undeniable.

PIECE BY PIECE
I’m not sure I’d recommend you wear this to the office, per se, but you can certainly wear this look whenever you want to shake things up a bit. Whether at night or in the day, just make sure you’re appropriate for the occasion.

At the core of this outfit is the basic button-down shirt and black trouser with a pair of white suspenders. All this goes with the new classic Dr. Martens. These half gloves from Patricia Field are a rock star necessity. The outfit is completed with a wacky, brightly printed scarf to be worn around the neck.

With suspenders, I’m always worried about whether to wear them over the bust or around them. With the added scarf that question is answered with: it doesn’t matter. Whatever feels right to you. The scarf will do a bit of visual minimizing on the bust area and it keeps the suspenders from making you look larger than you are. That’s a handy, sneaky tip from one lady of size to another.

COLOR
Black seems to be the dominate color with the band, black trousers or dresses paired with another color like blue, army green or pink.
