NOTE: Comments are now closed. If you want to shop eShakti all I can say is buyer beware.
ORIGINAL POST (June 18, 2008): My apologies, readers! I may have been fooled into thinking eShakti was a real store. I’ve found some online reviews that suggest eShakti is nothing but a big, old scam. I will do further research, but for now, I recommend you don’t make any purchases from their site until I get to the bottom of this.
I’ve temporarily removed all blog posts using the retailer’s items and will do the same on Polyvore ASAP.
I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

UPDATE (March 25, 2009): In my original post I suggested that eShakti may be a scam. At the time, I had no idea how shady (if shady at all) eShatki was. I just know that there is evidence online suggesting that eShakti are perhaps not the most reliable clothing provider online.
I retract the original statement and post and present you with evidence that suggests, rather, that eShakti has questionable business practices that include slow product delivery, slow to respond customer service, and misleading clothing descriptions. I still strongly believe, even after a comment from the shop owner below, that buyers should beware of eShakti and it is my opinion that pleasant shopping experiences should be simple and up front. You should want to buy because the shop has integrity not because they issue a challenge that I’m not going to take up (I don’t have money to bet on).
There’s one more thing…
Today, I received an email (March 25, 2009) that sums up what all shoppers should be aware of when buying from eShakti:
Hi,
I found your eShakti post when I was searching online for places to post my review. I am totally creeped out by Mr. Krishnan’s comments basically taunting you to spend money on his site just to find out if his company is legit. I recently bought some stuff from them, and here is what I wrote about it on about.com:
“I have bought several items from eShakti recently and have had wildly varied results. Two items fit perfectly, one is passable, and two had to be returned. In the case of the two I returned, one was laughably large on me, the other was too tight. All of these items were the same “size” on their tags. They have a very restricted return policy where you have to mail it an exact certain way or they don’t have to honor the return. There is no exchange policy wherein you can return one thing for the same in a different size, you just have to reorder. The delivery process is very slow, and communication along the way is spotty at best. Also, if you have a gift certificate, it won’t automatically be reflected in the total. In my case, I had to send multiple emails to them to get them to deduct the GC from my total. Very, very frustrating.
The clothes were cute, and the quality is pretty good, but disagree with the assessment that the quality is very high for the price. The cottons are without fail the sheerest they can be without attaching the adjective “threadbare,” and I am quite sure the embroidery is machine-done and not handsewn. The thing I find most disappointing is that there are so few places to purchase plus-size clothing that looks original and not straight from Old Navy/Lane Bryant/Torrid, and when one pops up, shilling anthropologie-esque frocks to boot, you want to love them. But I have found the hassle to be more work than it was worth.”Thanks,
Alexis

Really! I’ve been meaning to buy something from them for months, to check out the customization.
I took a gamble and ordered from EShakti in Jan 2008. I ordered on a Sunday, and the following Wednesday (10 days later, not 3) my order was at my local postal delivery place (UPS, I think? The brown-truck people). My email reciept said that there would be a follow-up email in 5 business days to tell me how my order was going, but that never happened. :( About the time I got nervous, the email announcing the order’s arrival at the post office came in.
I didn’t do custom sizes, beyond ordering long sleeves on my shirts, but it fit according to the measurments the site posted. I liked what I got, the quality, colour etc was what I expected. (I really, really, REALLY hate sleeveless shirts, so I LOVED being able to order tank-tops and get matching sleeves!!)
The only downside was that I’m in Canada, not the USA. I paid about 100$ for the shirts, ‘custom’ sleeves and shipping. After it arrived in Canada, I had to pay nearly 40$ in customs and taxes to pick up my package!! (I have no idea what the cost would be in the US. So be careful!!)
Even with the sticker-shock I am planning another order soon, so I would reccomend them.
Oops, I meant I ordered from them in Jan, 2009, not 8. Darn new year.
eShakti is perfectly legit and there are thousands of customers who shop at it and get their clothes to their entire satisfaction including many among them who go so far as to say they will not shop anywhere else. They particularly like the fact it is only eShakti that allows them custom sizing and styling. I would request you to check out the site, and maybe even order something even if it is a small-ticket item, and see for yourself if it is legit or not, rather than tar it in the manner you have done, on hearsay.

@B G Krishnan: I hope what you are saying is true. However, I point you to the information alleging that customers never got their eShakti orders (see Yahoo answers links above).
I will not be purchasing from eShakti before confirming that the site is perfectly safe for consumers.
That’s a Catch-22 – how will you know if what is alleged is true or not unless you try it? What you risk is perhaps $50 or $60. Weigh against that the risk to eShakti’s reputation – it is a far bigger risk, you will admit. Can a company be damned on the basis of a single allegation and in the face of many more actual customer experiences that say the company is extremely customer-centric? Thank you all the same for publishing my response. That is truly appreciated. I do not want to bore you and your readers by more emails on this subject and would leave it to your (and their) sense of fair-play. Thank you.
@B G Krishnan: I stand by my statement, sir.
