Beth Ditto is probably one of the coolest famous girls I’d like to know. She’s out spoken about size-acceptance, especially fat discrimination and the way modern society demonizes plus-size figures. In other words, she’s a bad ass feminist… someone worth paying attention to.

Is there anyone cooler than Beth Ditto?

The Gossip, the indie-rock band she fronts, has a cool soul-inspired sound. She has a strong voice that’s been compared to Janis Joplin. On top of her singing talents she has a wonderfully edgy sense of style and really is a bit of role model in the sense that she’s just being herself and doing what she loves and girl ain’t letting nobody tell her any differently.

The funny thing is, the fashion world just has to accept her, too. It’s like the entire industry is won over by her frankness. They’re helpless against her charm and they have put her in Vogue a few times and Nylon, which is great. Not even they can stop her. I’m really fascinated by her influence. She’s probably one of the most seen plus-size folks to be featured and held up by the fashion industry. I’m talking real plus-size not that model “plus-size” size ten ish.

NME reports that Beth Ditto is set to design a line of clothing for the British plus-size retail store, Evans. If that is true, I’m going to be camping out online to see what the line will look like and if the line is anything like Beth’s personal style then I’m sure I’ll be picking up some hip, new clothes as soon as it debuts.

My greatest fear is that Beth Ditto will get all Hollywood on us and lose weight. I’m not saying it’s a threat, but if it ever happens I called it. Wow! That’s really cynical of me. But it happens and it’s happening a lot to even the out-spoken famous full-figures.

I can speculate on what’s driving other famous former full-figures to get weight-loss surgery or other means of trimming down, but it really doesn’t matter so long as people, especially women, like Beth Ditto exist in exactly the way that she does: fat, happy, and glamorous.
