There are a few trends out right now that tend to add a bit of volume to silhouettes. One of those trends is the bubble hem dress. Some people think just because it adds volume it’s an automatic no-no for plus gals, but I say nay!
Why?
One, because I figure I’m already fat, who’s going to quibble over an extra inch or two? Certainly not I. Two, because it looks great when done correctly so why shouldn’t I be just as trendy as I want to be?
So here’s what you do. It’s simple, really.
First, learn the following mantra: The belt is my friend. As long as you belt your waist you can get away with just about any amount of volume on top and on bottom and still look stunning. The cinched waist will accentuate your natural curves by drawing in the midsection.
In addition to the belt rule, you can also do a fitted layer on top or on bottom. Try a fitted blazer with scrunched arms or a pair of opaque tights or both. The fitted blazer will streamline your top half. The scrunched arms will expose more skin area so you avoid looking like a walking clothes hamper. A nice pair of black opaque tights will show off the best qualities of your leg (you know that amazingly great calf muscle looks so fantastic stocking-ed).
Don’t skip the accessories on this look. A long necklace and a large bag does the trick for finishing it off. I recommend strappy sandals for shoes.
It’s as simple as that to pull off this look. Go for it!
Please forgive me, ladies. I couldn’t find an image on the internet of a plus-size bubble hem dress, but I know they exist– I own one. This dress is meant for mock-up purposes only.
